历史原型：
阿莱克·杰弗里斯爵士，FRS（Sir Alec John Jeffreys，1950年1月9日－，出生于牛津）是一位英国遗传学家，最早的DNA指纹分析及DNA特征测定技术发展者。其技术首次在1983到1986年间的谋杀案应用，使嫌犯柯林·皮区佛克（Colin Pitchfork）因DNA证据而被定罪。
科林·皮奇福克（Colin Pitchfork，1961年－，出生于英国马基特德雷顿什罗普郡）是第一位因DNA指纹分析证据而遭逮捕定罪的嫌疑犯。皮区福克分别于1983年11月21日以及1986年7月31日，强奸并谋杀了两名女孩。他在1987年9月19日被逮捕，并于1988年1月22日承认罪行，判处无期徒刑。
