《吸血鬼日记》由美国女作家L.J.史密斯的同名畅销系列小说改编而成。
这一季的人物关系更加复杂，各式人物轮番登场。Kathrine的回归（妮娜·杜波夫 Nina Dobrev 饰）让Elena（妮娜·杜波夫 Nina Dobrev 饰）、Stefan（保罗·韦斯利 Paul Wesley 饰）和Damen（伊恩·萨默海尔德 Ian Somerhalder 饰）的关系更加复杂。Elena不但知道叔叔John才是自己的亲身父亲，还发现Alaric失踪已久的妻子Isobel竟然是自己的生母。Tyler也发现自己家族的秘密——月圆之夜化身狼人。Kathrine几百年来躲避的元老吸血鬼Elena突然现身，大家目的都是混血吸血鬼klaus。klaus的最终目标是杀死Elena，得到得到双重身的血。一切都将吵着不可避免的方向发展......
